Smart Concrete is a wireless RF probe, specially developed for embedding in concrete, which enables accurate monitoring of the concrete drying process. By using this probe, construction companies and engineers can effectively keep track of the concrete drying process and ensure that it reaches the right moisture level for further processing.
The probe is automatically activated during casting and immediately begins transmitting data on temperature and relative humidity (RH), with an accuracy of ±2%. This provides the user with accurate and reliable information on the drying process.
The wireless technology in Smart Concrete allows users to easily read the collected data via an app or computer. This makes it easier to assess when the concrete has dried sufficiently to be processed further, saving both time and resources on the construction site.
User-friendliness is a key aspect of the product, enabling construction contractors and engineers to make informed decisions based on up-to-date data on the condition of the concrete.
The probe is the result of a collaboration between ElectroTech Kalix AB, Lund University of Technology, Heidelberg Materials Cement Sverige AB, and Thomas Concrete Group AB. It has an estimated lifespan of at least two years, making it a sustainable tool for long-term monitoring of concrete drying and optimization of the drying process.
Field tests are currently underway to further improve the probe in terms of reliability and user-friendliness.
The goal is to make the product commercially available in the fourth quarter of 2025, setting a new standard for monitoring concrete drying on construction sites.
